Just seen the news that Hound Dog is at 14 in the singles chart in the UK this week, almost certainly because of download sales… part of the long tail. What is interesting about this is that this was recorded in 1956 and therefore it is no longer in copyright in the UK.
As far as many music industry parties are concerned, this music would be copied to the hills and could not possibly be making money for anyone as it is no longer protected. Unfortunately this would be a wrong view as it is making money for online music distributors at least.
